Many rooms in the home can benefit from a warm color scheme.  Warm colors in the yellow, orange, and red families can make a room feel more inviting, as well as add brightness to your space.  Reflecting summer’s sunshine and adding cheer to winter’s bleaker landscape, warm colors are appropriate year-round.  Next time you plan a home improvement project, consider adding a warm palette to your home.

Kitchen: Butterscotch yellows and creamy browns make an inviting kitchen that your guests will want to linger in.  When you plan your kitchen remodeling, choose deep brown cabinets and leather stools.  Creamy butterscotch walls bring brightness to the room, and gauzy white curtains add the finishing touch.

Dining Room: Keep the kitchen’s rich brown tones, but replace the yellow walls with deep crimson.  If you can find an antique dining table, so much the better—the color combination of crimson and brown is a classic.  Find some leather-bound books or a few small sculptures for decoration and cover your chairs in creamy beige, and your dining room will be the envy of all.

Living Room: Think outside the box—or, in this case, outside the paint can.  Warm accents can also come in the form of accent chairs, decorative pillows, and throw rugs.  Too much color can easily become overwhelming, however—imagine a room with bright red furniture and orange walls.  Avoid this by keeping walls a neutral color.  Dark grays may seem boring, but they’ll really make colors pop.

Entryway:  This is the first room guests see when they enter your house, so it’s important to have a welcoming entryway.  For the walls, choose a light yellow to brighten the space.  Use cranberry red as an accent color; patterned rugs, large paintings, and storage cabinets make great accent pieces.

Experiment with color and painting techniques to find the right combination for your room.  If you’re afraid to commit, purchase a few different colors in sample sizes and have your painter try the colors in your room.  For more information and advice, call us at (703) 263-3302.  We at MasterWorks Painters have experience in every area of home improvement, including kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, and basement finishing.  We serve homeowners in the Fairfax, Ashburn, Vienna, and Oakton, Virginia, areas.
