Window Replacement in Fairfax & Nearby Areas
Ever wonder why it feels so drafty in your home?
It’s almost as if there’s a window wide open somewhere letting the outside temperature inside. Well, chances are you’ve got old, inefficient windows in your home and the truth is you’re losing up to 40% of your heating and cooling efforts through those old windows. Replacing old windows with updated vinyl windows will save you a tremendous amount of money on your heating and cooling bills.
But buyer beware: Not all replacement windows are created equal!
The fact is, there are literally thousands of window manufacturers in the U.S. alone and they all make their products a little different. Most of them are decent, but there are a few key questions to ask before making your decision.
- Are the windows air tight?
Make sure the windows have been certified by the AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association) with the gold seal. This simply means that the windows have been tested by a third party organization and exceed industry standards for air infiltration.
Think of it like this, you can have the greatest, warmest, most comfortable winter coat in the world. But, if you walk outside in -20 degree weather without zipping it up, it really doesn’t keep you all that warm.
It’s the same with windows. You can have the best triple pane, low-e coated, krypton filled windows out there, but if the window isn’t air tight, you’re still just throwing cash down the drain.
- Do the windows qualify for the $1,500 tax credit?
This one is important. The purpose of the tax credit is to help persuade people to make their homes more energy efficient. So, if your window replacements qualify for the tax credit, not only do you get up to $1,500 cash from uncle Sam, but they are more energy efficient because they meet the criteria set forth by the NFRC (National Fenestration Rating Council). Don’t waste your time or money on windows that don’t qualify.
Of course there are many other factors to consider when choosing replacement windows like warranty, quality window installation, safety and beauty, but this is a good starting point.
